O’s Notes: Frank’s energy on sax is incredible for a man of 71 years. But it’s complemented by his heart and soul that come from years of experience along with an abundance of talent. Frank plays what is necessary plus a little bit more to open your eyes! Morgan is one of the bebop stars who managed to stay alive, though he engaged in the potentially terminal scene of drugs that was all too common in the early 1950s. This is a follow-up to City Nights, also a live recording at the Jazz Standard with the same cast: George Cables (p), Curtis Lundy (b) and drummer Billy Hart. They present more great standards with excellent results. We like this one, especially “Footprints” and “In A Sentimental Mood”.
