O’s Notes: It is hard to believe that bassist Moppa Elliott’s creation MOPDtK has been around over ten years but they persist in bringing a fresh punk jazz sound to an increasingly large audience. The lineup is the quartet: Elliott, Kevin Shea (d), Jon Irabagon (sax) and Peter Evans (t) with guests David Taylor (tb), Ron Stabinsky (p) and Brandon Seabrook (banjo). The music for Red Hot is technically sound alternating between order and playful chaos in a way the only MOPDtK can do. It is more accessible than past recordings with a comedic bent, perhaps their best yet!
