O’s Notes: Frank (sax) partners with Essiet Essiet (b), Billy Hart (d) and Ronnie Mathews (p) to perform eight standards. Frank was once among the hottest young sax men on the scene emulating Charlie Parker. Perhaps he picked up too much of Bird’s ways including the drug scene that derailed him for a long time. Morgan had a rebirth in 1985 and has since been on a path that has brought us a wealth of very good jazz alto sax. Reflections is a fine effort which shows Morgan at ease with himself, playing from the heart with gentle fleeting moments that remind us of Parker as on “Solar”. But Frank has settled into his own signature now and it is cool.
