O’s Notes: Wes Montgomery has inspired many guitarists and yes Pat is among the fans. He selects ten of Wes’s best and adds his own twists on the new arrangements. Pat has evolved from rock to R&B to hard bop. He’s certainly mellowed out on this session as if he were destined to play cool bop from the beginning. Among the best here are “Grooveyard”, “Full House” and “Twisted Blues”. The surrounding musicians are David Kikoski (p), John Patitucci (b), Scott Allan Robinson (d) and Daniel Sadownick (perc), all 1st call players. Martino’s life itself is a bit of a miracle but we’ll let you read the liner notes to figure that out. We’ll instead alert you that this is a cooking session, one that has a lot of feel and groove, more than a basic tribute.
