O’s Notes: Pianist Alan Hewitt performs a set of ten smooth jazz originals with a couple of freshly arranged covers. He opens with the theme from “Shaft” and moves through several inoffensive tunes. Brian Price (g), Chad Wright (d) and Gerald Spikes (sax) are The Retroactive Band, his core accompaniment. Hewitt also adds filler vocals on a few tracks. Our favorites were “Saturday Afternoon” featuring a guest appearance from Paul Jackson, Jr. (g) and the funky “Amagine That”.
