O’s Notes: Edo Castro plays the 7-string bass and uses looping and a synthesizer to expand the sound of his instrument. He plays with a core trio including Erik Lindquist (g) and Alex Aspinall (d). We got hooked on the funky beats of “Sneaky Pete”, one of many fine fusion numbers. Mark Isham (t) steps in on the title track and Dan Zinn (sax) leads the charge on “The Gathering”, a couple of solid examples of the expansion of the ‘Expandable Trio”. Edo shows his prowess in many spots while also sharing the stage with fellow musicians. The result is a session with lots of depth and variety.
