O’s Notes: Get ready to get saxed out! Saxolollapalooza is a sax feast including Eric Marienthal (sax, fl), Bob Sheppard (sax, cl, fl) and Peter Erskine (d). Leader Macchia (sax, fl, cl) spent 18 years putting this sax and drums album together! He gathered some of the best musicians and finally recorded twelve of his favorites. The session opens full tilt on “Air Mail Special”. They play mellow harmonies on “My One And Only Love” and swing on “That’s A Plenty”. They even take the sax to Michael Jackson’s “Working Day And Night”! We enjoyed the fresh creative arrangements on top of the sax concept. It felt good.
