O’s Notes: Bassist Marc Johnson teams up with an all-star cast for Shades of Jade. John Scofield (g), Joey Baron (d), Joe Lovano (ts), Elaine Elias (p) and Alain Mallet (organ) are all well-established musicians who combine with Marc to make a set of rich warm instrumental ballads. The music was composed by Johnson and Elias except for “Don’t Ask of Me” written by Anton Mailyan. There’s a fusion bend to “Blue Nefertiti” but our favorite was the swinging “Raise”.
