O’s Notes: Pianist Steve Hudson assembles a fine ensemble to play seven of his compositions, a fresh set of modern jazz. There is a mellow blend of brass on the title track featuring vocals from Peter Eldridge. The horns provide spark again on “Boomba”. “Last Call opens with a 3 minute piano solo by Steve that sets the pace and tone for this lazy tune that features Mark DeJong on alto sax. It was one of the best of the set. They conclude with “Paola” with Oscar Noriega (cl) leading the melody on this tune that speaks of a town with the dame name in Italy.
