O’s Notes: Guitarist David Widelock puts together a set of eleven blues and jazz-fusion tunes in a trio format. His partners are Fred Randolph (b) and Jim Kassis (d). They are all veteran jazz musicians from the San Francisco Bay Area. The music is mostly originals, a play mix of different styles. We enjoyed the title track with Widelock drawing on Django and a strong bass solo from Randolph. “Peeling the Magic Onion” is David’s mixture of blues with Monk, a combo that works well. We liked the jazz-fusion mix on “Cellodious” best on Widelock’s sidewalk collage.
