O’s Notes: Woods makes his third appearance with the DePaul University Jazz Ensemble. This one was recorded over three studio session between October 2008 and May 2009. The rhythm section includes old pros Jim McNeely (p), Steve Gilmore (b) and Bill Goodwin (d) for three tracks. Woods wrote all of the music and Bob Lark directs the large ensemble. The band plays with precision and lots of dynamics. We enjoyed the heavy swing of the session especially on “Randi” and “Brazilian Affair”. They slow down for “Solitude” to balance yet another strong Woods appearance with DUJE.
