O’s Notes: O’Brien plays solo piano in this tribute to the great Chet Baker. And who better than Hod to do a tribute to Baker? O’Brien played alongside of Chet during the late 70s and through the 80s including several recordings. The program includes some of the old favorites, “Let’s Get Lost” and “My Funny Valentine”. We also enjoyed “Stella by Starlight”. Hod considers this a double tribute album as he also pays homage to Dave McKenna also. Dave played with a style that made his solo piano sound more like a trio. His left hand emulated the walking bass and the percussive striking of the notes carried the rhythm of the drums. The result is a CD that will appeal to both piano lovers and fans of Chet Baker.
