O’s Notes: The Songs for Micaela range from soft samba beats to burning bop leads by Eric Alexander (sax), Randy Brecker (t) and Silberstein (g). James proves he is adept with both lead and rhythm guitar playing with a precision that places him among the top jazz guitarists. Carla Cook adds a strong performance on the lone vocal, “So Many Stars”. There’s a touch of funk in “House Party”, one of several originals mixed in with standards. In addition to the aforementioned musicians, Bruce Barth (p) and Harvey S (b) also make notable contributions. Overall this is a strong debut for Mr. Silberstein.
