O’s Notes: We first met pianist Alva Nelson as he was backing up singer Dorothy Leigh in New York. His performance impressed us and we are happy to review his recording as a leader in a trio setting with bassist Chris White and Cecil Brooks III (d). Alva plays with vibrant spirit and warm melodies making this a pleasant outing. We especially enjoyed the soothing “Song For Keisha” and his arrangement of the classic “Body and Soul”.
