O’s Notes: Pianist Rob Mullins has assembled a strong cast including Jimmy Roberts (ts), David Levray (b), and Evan Stone (d). They take us through eleven standards that really cook. Mullins dances across the ivory with an apparent sense of ease that belittles the task on “Angel Eyes”. Roberts’ solos have passion and depth while Stone goes beyond time keeping adding punctuation where it feels just right. This is a live session that retains its live character even on CD!
