O’s Notes: Highly acclaimed guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel follows up his live album The Remedy – a high-energy burner, with Reflections, a more mellow session. It is a collection of standards that showcases Kurt in a mature mellow mode. He’s accompanied by Eric Revis (b) and Eric Harland (d). “East Coast Love Affair” is the sole original, the title track from his debut in 1996. Kurt sooths us on “More Than You Know”, one of many warm ballads here. We also enjoyed “Ask Me Now”, “Ana Maria” and especially “Fall”, a mid-tempo take on Wayne Shorter’s tune. Rosenwinkel enjoys the space of a pianoless trio and he fills it nicely.
