O’s Notes: This quintet consists of Marcus Printup (t), Frank Kimbrough (p), Ben Allison (b), Matt Wilson (d) and leader Ted Nash on tenor sax. The blend of Printup’s trumpet with Ted’s sax is almost intoxicating on “Gritty Ditty” a rough and tumbles New Orleans style jam that includes a bubbly solo from Kimbrough. That kindles the fire for a strong set which allows each of the musicians to shine. The unit blends together selfishly and with a unified spirit that makes In The Loop a sweet recording.
