O’s Notes: Sofía has a wonderful voice and she presents it with splendor over a dozen selections on Sub Azul. The lyrics are in Spanish. A lack of understanding the language will not prevent you from enjoying her, as Rei’s voice is another instrument in harmony with a strong band. She dances with the instruments on the title track mirroring the tones of bassist/producer Jorge Rogers and then stretching away with the melody. The funky calypso beats of “El Mayoral” add yet another dimension to the set. Rei wrote, coproduced and arranged the music on this CD, her second as a leader. This is modern jazz from Buenos Aires true to tradition yet with a fresh contemporary feeling.
