O’s Notes: Sun Ray is a tribute to the late jazz pianist Ray Bryant, one of Lenny’s teachers. In fact Bryant was a family friend, mentor, and “uncle” that took strong interest in teaching Marcus the tricks of the trade. The rhythm section is Rick Eckberg (b) and Larry Scott (d) with Lenny on piano. Several other musicians join in to accentuate the performance notably Tom Atwick (fl, sax) and Cyrus Pace (g). Marcus presents Sun Ray with Distant Dream, two fine releases so far in 2012.
