O’s Notes: Indian drummer Sunny Jain puts together a set of six original compositions and one tradition cover. The music is based on traditional Indian and African Diasporas but infused with contemporary jazz-fusion. The core quartet includes Marc Cary (p), Nir Felder (g) and Gary Wang (b). Jain attempts to address many of the unspoken social injustices including homosexuality with these songs. Highlights are “Two Ladies” and “A Sufi” Felder does an excellent job on guitar throughout complimenting the mood and spirit of the music. Jain’s approach is palatable and enjoyable, a strong attempt at breaking some barriers.
