O’s Notes: The Blessing is a collection of mostly popular standards with a few originals by pianist David Leonhardt and Newman. But don’t think of this as just another set of standards. David plays his tenor sax with soft passion that invites the listener into the music on “Someone To Watch Over Me”. The rhythms are always cool with Steve Nelson (vibes), Peter Bernstein (g), and Leonhardt complementing each other. This turned out to be ‘Fathead’s final recording in December 2008. It is soothing and peaceful capping a wonderful career.
