O’s Notes: Inspired by his concert and visit to Morocco in 2006 pianist Benjamin Taubkin was fascinated by the idea of fusing Moroccan and Brazilian music. The idea comes to fruition on The Bridge, his latest release. There is a strong East Indian/Arabic influence enhanced by Farid El Foulah’ s work on the oud. There is a good mix of tempo and mood with the soft approach of “Variaåo Em Temas Traditionais” contrasting with energetic “Quilombo” laced with heavy drum and percussion beats. Our favorite is “O Deseeto Aqui” a blend of both worlds.
