O’s Notes: Jazz saxophonist David Murray visited St. Lucia where he unites with many local musicians to form the Creole Project. This band plays jazz infused with a large dose of funk and soul courtesy of the African heritage. “Africa” features Taj Mahal singing hopeful solutions to the large continent. The lyrics come from the poet Ishmael Reed who also is credited on the verse for the title track sung by Sista Kee. Mahal and Sista Kee join forces singing “Southern Skies”, poignant lyrics over funky beats. There is a soulful swing on “Congo” led by Murray’s work on sax. All eight tracks have an earthy vibe that results in a sense if warmth and good feeling.
