O’s Notes: Twenty-five year old Michael Feinberg is becoming a formidable bassist on the jazz scene. The Elvin Jones Project is about the late drummers interactions with bassists. Jimmy Garrison, George Mraz, Gene Perta and Dave Holland serve as inspirations to Feinberg with Billy Hart plays drums here. George Garzone (sax), Tim Hagens (t), Leo Genovese (keyboards) and guest artist Alex Wintz (g) round out the band. Hart does a fine job replicating the drummer-bass connections with Feinberg. There is lots of space giving each musician a chance to freely improvise. The music is precise and simmers like a slow cooking pot of chili allowing all of the flavors to develop.
