Dem Dem’s Demos, 2011, CD
Jazz Ruler Type: Pop+Jazz
O’s Notes: Wikipedia defines exegesis as a critical explanation or interpretation of a text… The band says exegesis is the belief that symbols, scientific thought, astronomical ideas, numerical ratios and conceptual art and architecture can be expressed in sound. They present a balanced program that is more accessible than either definition or the cover artwork suggests. Robert Perkins, one of four drummers on the CD, shines on “Chroma”. Gretchen Parlato sings on a couple of spacey songs. Nick Demopoulos (g) wrote most of the music and Danton Boller plays bass. The Harmony of the Anomaly presents a clear view of experimental jazz that merits consideration for progressive jazz/rock fans.
