O’s Notes: This is a modern jazz trio featuring John Duncan (sax), John Goldsby (b) and Jason Tiermann (d). The Innkeepers’ Gun is their second recording. It was made during their 2009 European tour. Duncan and Goldsby wrote seven selections and they add a cover of “Paparazzi”. This piano-less trio reminds us of similar groupings by Sonny Rollins and Ornette Coleman at times visiting free space. There is strong interaction between the musicians in a clear well-defined soundstage. The recording quality is outstanding and added to our enjoyment. While we hear a lot from Goldsby in other settings, this grouping warrants further attention.
