O’s Notes: This is an unusual tribute in that Goodman wrote none of the songs and he did not record any of them either. It’s more of a celebration in the spirit of a legend and it works well. The music ranges from bubbly swing to ragtime with first class two-handed piano playing from Mark Shane. The rest of the crew includes Howard Alden (g), Lars Erstrand (vibes), Len Skeat (b) and Joe Ascione (d) with Allan Vaché (cl) and Antti Sarpila (cl) on the last three tracks. Peplowski (cl, sax) organized the band for this concert in Hamburg during 1995 with the intent of making everlasting music. They succeeded.
