O’s Notes: These guys really swing starting with “LT’s Express” and keeping a tight groove going all the way through. Pianist Jimmy Amadie is adept on the keys and he leads the action. Guest artists Benny Golson (sax), Randy Brecker (t) and Lew Tabackin (sax, fl) add warm tones and fleeting solos throughout the set. Amadie wrote most of the music and adds fine arrangements of the three covers. The pace drops on “Michael’s Lament” yet their intensity remains, translated into rich emotion courtesy of Brecker on trumpet. It’s Benny’s turn on the title track with Tabackin playing flute on “Lew’s Mood”. This one is easy to settle into as all of the tunes pop and feel good.
