O’s Notes: American Sam Newsome (sax) and Romanian pianist Lucian Ban combine traditional jazz with Romanian folk music. They open with the funky “Transylvanian Dance” from a popular Romanian TV show. The program of nine songs alternates between slow and fast tempos. We preferred the upbeat songs “Danube Stroll” and “Bucharest Part Two” in this creative collaboration.
