O’s Notes: Pianist Johannes Wallmann assembles a quintet with Gilad Hekselman (g), Russ Johnson (t), Sean Conly (b) and Jeff Hirshfield (d). Guest saxophonist Dayna Stephens is showing up a lot lately and plays on two selections notably “November”, a warm ballad. Hekselman lights it up on “Paper Balls” followed by Johnson. The program is a good mix of tempos that kept us engaged. Our favorite is “A House For Men And Birds” with sharp solos by Johnson and Wallmann.
