O’s Notes: Sax man James Dean leads a band with Mike Ponella (t), Phillip Jones (tb), Bob DeBenedette (p), Ron Naspo (b) and Wayne Dunton (d). They are the mainstay at the Whiskey Café in Lyndhurst, NJ hence the title of the band. They play upbeat swinging jazz mostly covers including Dean’s “Bebop For Linda” a transformation of “Cherokee”. They slow down the pace a bit on “Park Avenue Petite” and “Ask Me Now”. But Dunton fuels the fire on “Fingers” and several others keeping things popping. We liked the pace on “Friends”, a mellow tine. This is an easy groove to dig overall.
