O’s Notes: Tenor saxophonist, composer, producer JD Allen forms a trio with Alex Bonney (electronics) and Gwilym Jones (d). JD says, “Motivic melody, sonic and rhythmic propulsion are the three components of This.” We couldn’t truly decipher what he meant but this is undoubtedly a unique musical endeavor. The opening title track is like a soundtrack for a mystery movie, and that theme continues as we navigated through the maze of eight selections. “Boom-Bap” and “See It, Say It, Sorted” are highlights.
