O’s Notes: Denver-based tenor saxophonist, composer Keith Oxman pays homage to the late bassist Joey Pearlman on This One’s For Joey. While Pearlman was only here for 24 years, he had a positive impact on all he interfaced with. That spirit is captured on this recording. Jeff Jenkins (p), Mark Simon (b) and Todd Reid (d) join a wailing Oxman for the first 12 selections. Simon contributes strong bass solos on “Joshua Fought the Battle Against Trump & Co.” and “Clark’s Spark”. We also enjoyed “Garden Song”, “Debtussy”, the title track and the swinging “John Paul Jones” featuring Oxman with twin brothers Stevie and Joey Pearlman when they were 17-year-old HS Juniors!
