O’s Notes: Guitarist Jake Hertzog leads a quartet with bassist Harvie S, drummer Victor Jones and Randy Brecker on trumpet. Brecker is super on “Sending Home” though Hertzog handles most of the melodies notably on the title track and “Cleared To Fly”. Jake’s rock-based excursions are fresh, lively and fit well in his band. Throwback is done with no overdubs like old school jazz recordings to capture first impressions and maximize spontaneity.
