O’s Notes: The Clarinet Trio is Jürgen Kupke (cl), Michael Thieke (a cl, cl) and Gebhard Ullmann (b cl). They play a relaxed Avant Garde with each of the musicians being stimulated by each other. This chain reaction extends through eleven compositions, nine written by Ullmann, one by the trio and a cover of Ornette Coleman’s “Homogeneous Emotions”. We enjoyed the squawks squeaks and kisses of “Collectives #13 #14”, the mysterious “Waters” and the playful bounce of “Kleine Figuren”. This trio proves that three clarinets are better than one!
