O’s Notes: Red was a bebop pianist and he had all of the pedigree by association that you could imagine, having played with Miles. His style is similar to that of Ahmad Jamal being pleasantly passive. He is not heralded as a great piano room player though that title could easily be bestowed upon him. This is a live session recorded in New York in 1959 on 2 discs. There is a lot to enjoy, as Red’s trio is first rate and his performance dazzling.
