O’s Notes: As the title suggests Trios Live is a collection of live recordings featuring veteran jazz saxophonist Joshua Redman in two different trio configurations. Joshua plays both tenor and soprano saxophones and breathes warmth through both horns on 4 originals and 3 standards. Drummer Gregory Hutchinson plays in both bands with Matt Penman playing bass at New York’s Jazz Standard and bassist Reuben Rogers taking the helm at Blues Alley in DC. Both bassists surface with cool solos and Hutchinson shines on “Act Natural”. This is a nice snapshot of Redman in a club setting playing to the feel of his audience with sharp extended and well-developed solos.
