O’s Notes: Pianist Bill O’Connell teams up with all-stars Dave Valentin (fl) and Richie Flores (perc) for Triple Play. Bill’s fascination with Latin jazz goes way back to his engagements with Mongo Santamaria in the 1970s. They put a Latin touch on each of these ten songs, half originals and half standards. “Just In Time”, “You’ve Changed” and “Afro Blue” take on a different character with this trio led by Valentin’s strong work on flute. We enjoyed the set. It was creative, fun and refreshing.
