O’s Notes: The latest edition from The Rippingtons opens with pulsating club beats on “Wild Tales”. Russ Freeman plays guitars, bass, keyboards and percussion with Dave Karasony (d, perc), Rico Belled (b, Rhodes) and Brandon Fields (sax). Guest artist Jeffrey Osborne sings on “My Promise To You” the lone vocal track and Freeman goes solo on “Flamenco Beach”. We also enjoyed the funky groove of “Reach Higher” and the rocking “Kings Road” capping a varied set of True Stories and renewing the spirit of the legendary contemporary jazz band.
