O’s Notes: Guitarist Joel Harrison takes a trip back to 1970s fusion for Urban Myths. His eight originals were inspired by the work of electric era-Miles, Zawinul, Shorter, Corea and Hancock. His core band is Daniel Kelly (keyboards), Christian Howe (violin), David Binney (sax), Stephan Crump (b) and Jordan Person (d). Christian’s work is strong especially the cool violin solo on the title track. That is one of the standouts along with “Straight No Chaser (variations)” and “Between the Traveler and the Setting Sun”. Harrison is very energetic and infuses the program with a lot of syncopation. It is a winner with a retro feel.
