O’s Notes: Trichotomy is a British trio featuring pianist Sean Foran, drummer John Parker and bassist Pat Marchisella. They project an image much larger than three musicians making excellent use of dynamics. Writing duty is split between Foran and Parker with all three collaborating on the improvised tune “Labyrinth”. The tempo and mood swings from the highly energetic “Island of the Sun” to the peace and tranquility of “At The Right Moment”. We also enjoyed the adventure of “Start” with guest artists Christa Powell (violin), Bernard Hoey (viola) and John Babbage (sax). We truly enjoyed this session, a fresh set of modern jazz tunes and ballads that we found to be very engaging.
