O’s Notes: The Very Tall Band is Oscar Peterson (p), Milt Jackson (vibes) and Ray Brown (b) with Karriem Riggins keeping time on drums. The genius of these legendary musicians comes out quickly on “Salt Peanuts”. Oscar continues the blitz on “Ad Lib Blues” with Ray walking behind him before Milt took the lead. We also liked “Soft Winds”. These are just a few examples in a strong program that was recorded live at the Blue Note in New York during 1998. This is the next best thing to being there!
