O’s Notes: Trumpet, composer and conductor Adam Meckler leads a large ensemble that features punchy beats and subtle layering that differentiates them from the typical big band. Each of the songs has moments of intrigue with unexpected changes of pace. They open with “Busta Jones featuring a fine solo from drummer Adrian Suarez. Meckler takes the spotlight on “Sparky Eyes” and “Beautiful Beatrice” demonstrating his prowess and warm tone. Many solid solos are dispersed through the program along with excellent recording dynamics making this an enjoyable set.
