O’s Notes: Mel is a seasoned jazz musician who has parlayed his vast experiences into the way he plays. His tools are sax, flute and clarinet. Martin uses those instruments to get into the music as opposed to using the music as a platform for all sorts of tricks. This results in songs that are easily appreciated time and again. The program is a mix of six covers with three originals. They come together as the Mel Martin Band including pianist Dan Friedman. Our favorites are “I Have A Dream”, the swinging “Weaver of Dreams”, “Rhythm Man” and “Blue In Green” featuring Barry Finnerty on guitar.
