O’s Notes: H2 stands for pianist Dave Hanson and trumpeter Al Hood. They are co-leaders of this energetic large ensemble. It is a brassy unit with 5 trumpets, 4 trombones and five saxophonists with a tight rhythm section. Malcolm Lynn Baker is the conductor/musical director for a program that includes 7 of Hanson’s originals with 4 freshly arranged covers. The program has a lot of zip without blowing out your eardrums! Highlights are “Blue Brews”, “Big Spender” and “Al’s Well” featuring Al Hood and Al Hermann (tb).
