O’s Notes: Argentine bassist and educator Fernando Huergo has great appreciation for American jazz as well as his native tango and folklore Latin music. He marries all three genres on Hashtag his latest release. Russian flutist Yulia Musayelyan, pianist Leo Genovese, saxophonist Rick DiMuzio and drummer Franco Pinna join him in a set that includes relaxed ballads like “Infant Eyes” and spirited numbers like “Trunca”. We also enjoyed the mid-tempo groove of “Weather”. Each of the musicians capture moments in the spotlight taking on the melody and solos while Pinna holds things together in what turns out to be a rather compelling set.
