O’s Notes: Ricano is a celebration of the music of Puerto Rico and The Dominican Republic. Jonathan Suazo (a-sax, t-sax, vocals) composed, arranged, and produced the session with many Latino musicians including appearances by Miguel Zenon (a-sax) on the danceable “AFRO DOMI”, David Sanchez (t-sax), and Ricky Rodriguez (b). Vocal melodies by Tanicha Lopez soften the approach on “Esperanza Pa’ Mi Pueblo”. Genesis Davis has an equal impact on “Dharma”. The instrumentals are vibrant, and the brass-laced, percussive attack is energetic, presenting Afro-Caribbean music in a fine light.
