O’s Notes: French pianist Dimitri Landrain leads a trio with drummer Keith Balla and bassist Jim Robertson. For Astor’s Place Landrain draws on his jazz and Latin influences to craft nine original tracks. They start with the energetic title track and trace through his musical career with tastes of tango, samba, Cuban, and modern jazz. The Latin threads are dominant especially on “Eight Years” and “O Carnival”. They wrap up swinging on “Waltz For Billy” with Landrain dancing across the keys.
