O’s Notes: This is collaboration between guitarist Juarez Moreira and vocalist Ithamara Koorax. They perform as a duo playing tunes from the songbook of Brazilian master composer Joãn Gilberto. Koorax’ vocalese, and scatting add percussive elements to the performance that marry well with Moreira’s playing. Many of the lyrics are in Portuguese but the beauty of Ithamara’s voice makes them pleasing as a vocal instrument to those unable to translate the words. We found it enjoyable and a reminder of the beauty of a cafe duo in Rio, a special pairing of two stellar performers.
