O’s Notes: Jazz pianist and composer Brian Marsella puts his signature on these Brazilian influenced compositions to create a fresh take on Bossa Nova. Our favorite is the fiery, festive “Meu Doce de Abobora”. There are also light, racy sounds as on “Fire the Pandora Player” courtesy of Itai Kriss (fl), Mark Feldman (violin) and Cyro Baptista (perc). That’s in stark contrast with the pandemonium of “O Balanco das Corredeiras” before the relaxing “Lamento” featuring Sofia Rei (vocals) and Jon Irabagon (sax). We also enjoyed “Marakashtu” with fine work from Kriss, Feldman and Felipe Hostins (Accordion).
